Guest Room/Home Office Setup
After months of staring at an empty room, I finally decided to do something with it.
Step 1
First steps when decorating/redecorating any space is to decide its function.
This particular room needed to serve as a guest room for out of town guests or the occasional grandparent sleepover, as well as, a home office for me.
In 10 years of full-time business and nearly 2 decades of entrepreneurship, I have never had a dedicated office space, so this was long over due.
Step 2
Choosing a color palette and design style
I decided to stick with the same color palette used throughout the rest of our home - black, white, tan and blue. Also adding gold as an accent color.
My style is mostly modern with clean straight edges. I like to always include elements of my family life, such as, family photos, family heirlooms, gifts from my kiddos.
Step 3
My favorite part...Shopping!!!
Most of my purchase came from Amazon. Some of the items were odds and ends from around our house.
Here’s My List:

Step 4
The final step in my process was setting up my space. Again, I considered functionality.
My desk area needed to be ready for long hours in front of a computer. I needed editable task management list posted close by; along with a calendar.
The television needed a sturdy stand - I have small kids, so it was important that the tv would sit high and not be able to be tipped over. I also need shelf space and drawers for office supplies and crafting materials.
The bed needed to be comfortable and cost efficient. Mattresses can be very costly. Thankfully, I found a great green tea infused mattress on Amazon for about $120. I’ve only used it for a quick nap here and there, but it sleeps great!
I also wanted to include a “reading corner”. A simple accent chair and c-table is all I needed. I’m still searching for the perfect reading lamp. I’ll most likely go with a floor lamp that hangs overhead.
Lastly, a 6-tiered bookshelf to finish off my space. I use the shelf mostly for decor, but it can also serve as storage if/when I need it.
